Cleaner water in the Oslo fjord

VEAS is responsible for cleaning the waste water from Asker, Bærum and half of Oslo. They are actively participating in development of machine learning methods for better monitoring and control of their treatment processes, in order to ensure best possible treatment of the water before being released into the Oslo fjord.

Control and regularization of methanol at VEAS wastewater treatment plant

  • Exploration of PID-controller for methanol dosing to clean nitrate from wastewater
    • Properties during deployment and investigation of periods where the PID-controller is not functioning properly
    • Explore potential improvements with respect to the handling of the PID-controller

  • Going from PID-controller to MPC, what must we require?
    • How sufficient must the corresponding prediction model be in terms of accuracy, speed and memory?
    • How do we put in place constraints to how methanol can be safely dosed?
    • Primarily analysis on simulation data, and possibly exploration on a physical pilot at Veas (mini wastewater plant faciliated for doing experiments)
