Each of the stakeholders has traditionally linked the implementation and deployment of information and communication technology (ICT) to their own business model. The business models differ as the objectives and the organisation are different for the different stakeholders. The maturity levels when it comes to understanding and actual use of ICT also differ. SINTEF Digital has for many years been working with the different stakeholders in the transport sector with the development of a multi modal framework of interoperability in the transport sector. This framework has been independent of technology and technology development, and has not been linked to any specific business model. The framework covers both passenger and freight transport, and is an overall approach.
The overall framework has been utilised for several more specific purposes. The needs of the logistics services providers and the buyers of such services have been targeted in the work with the "Common Framework for ICT in Transport and Logistics" which is a European framework. The information exchange is now standardised as a part of ISO 19845. This framework is the basis for several commercial solutions, and SINTEF continues to develop this framework to be able to support the connection of the commercial logistics services actors with the traffic and transport management as seen from the public side, both for long distances freight transport and local distribution transport.
