The project aims to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can support GPs in Norway. The project is driven by the increasing workload of GPs, with complex tasks and higher demands for efficiency.
By integrating AI into primary healthcare, the aim is to provide GPs with tools that can help them make more informed and standardized decisions, while improving patient safety.
Generative Language Models
The project focuses in particular on the use of Norwegian generative language models, which can provide support in areas such as the correct use of antibiotics and improved collaboration between primary and specialist healthcare services. Antibiotic resistance is one of the major threats to global public health, and AI can help ensure that antibiotics are used correctly, based on up-to-date medical knowledge. Additionally, language models can simplify administrative tasks by summarizing patient information and helping doctors navigate medical guidelines more efficiently. Health data from sources such as the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, the Norwegian Directorate of Health, and medical journals are among the resources used to train a Norwegian healthcare language model.
AI Workshops with General Practitioners
A key element in the project is co-creation with GPs, where their experiences and input are crucial to the development of the AI solutions. Through workshops and testing of prototypes, we collaborate with doctors to ensure that the technology meets their needs and improves the quality of healthcare services. The ambition of this project is to contribute to a more sustainable and efficient healthcare system in Norway, where AI becomes a valuable tool to support the work of GPs.
The project is funded by the Fund for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety in the Norwegian Medical Association,and is a collaboration between the Antibiotic Center for Primary Care (ASP) at UiO, the Norwegian Research center for AI Innovation (NorwAI) at NTNU, and the Health Department at SINTEF Digital.
