The increase in energy demand in industry, buildings, services, and transportation together with the associated greenhouse gas emissions bring great challenges to the energy sector. The answer to these challenges lies in digitalization, which is one of the essential pillars for the transformation of this sector in Europe and worldwide. INTEREST goes beyond the state of the art, with the objective of developing a hierarchical distributed Model Predictive Control for real-time monitoring and energy management of renewable energy systems with improved features such as sustainability, stability, reliability, and replicability. INTEREST will develop a concept that can be expressed by TRL5 aiming to boost the European outstanding position in global applied science. Strongly aligned with the EU policy framework for climate and energy, the outcomes are oriented towards the development of comprehensive, innovative, and evidence-based frameworks to move Europe into a technological leadership position in this field.

SINTEF serves as the project coordinator, providing strategic oversight and ensuring efficient management throughout the project. Its responsibilities include monitoring project progress, planning, and follow-up activities, as well as maintaining regular updates to the European Commission. SINTEF oversees decision-making procedures, project administration, data management, risk mitigation, and intellectual property rights (IPR) management. Additionally, SINTEF will lead activities in WP2, focusing on developing advanced forecasting algorithms for PV systems and adapting them to the specific conditions of the demonstration site. SINTEF will also develop a digital solution for accessing and storing data from the demo site on a platform, ensuring seamless access of the data for project partners.
