HyOpt is an optimization model for dimensioning and evaluation of energy systems, with a focus on zero-emission technology. Given a structure of the energy system plus expected energy demands and costs, the model decides which elements should be included and with what capacity, in order to optimize a given objective—typically maximizing the net present value of the whole modelled system.

HyOpt is formulated as a mixed integer linear optimization problem (MIP) and implemented in the FICO Mosel modelling language. It can use most of the major commercial and open-source solvers.

There is also a python interface that simplifies the model building and solving process.

The model, including the python interface and simple test cases, can be downloaded here.
